The difficulties of breaking this section into paragraphs have already been mentioned. Verses 2–8 have the form of an alphabetic poem, usually called an acrostic. Some scholars say that the poem extends to verse 10, others, to verse 14, but there is no general agreement. An acrostic poem is a poem in which the first word of each new line in Hebrew begins with a different letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The letters occur in alphabetical order.
